Pest Control Tips

Pharoah Ants

Pharoah ants can be a real nuisance, and can be somewhat difficult to control. The common mistake most homeowners make when combating pharoah ants is to spray them with some type of insecticide. Pharoah ants live in a colony and when the workers sense a danger from insecticides they send a signal back to their colony. This signal alerts the colony that there is danger and the colony responds by separating into smaller colonies and thus spreading the problem to other areas of the home. The only control for pharoah ants is to use a bait that the workers will take and feed to the colony, killing the entire colony without the ants fearing any kind of danger.

Controlling Weeds

Weed control in the summer is almost impossible. Most weed killers are designed to work in cool seasons, using them in temperatures over 85 degrees will damage even the healthiest grass. Weed killers that are designed for warm seasons are very selective, controlling only a small variety of weeds. However when trying to control weeds be sure to mix a "surfactant" with your weed killer. A surfactant breaks down the leafs surface tension of the weed and breaks down the water droplet to a smaller size, allowing the weed killer to better penetrate the weeds.
